Our Winter 2022 Research Rounds will start again on Friday, January 28, 2022. We have incredible speakers lined up who will share their work within the gynecological cancer field. The rounds will be on a bi-weekly basis on Fridays from 12 – 1 PM.

The following is our speaker schedule from January 2022 – March 2022. Our Spring 2022 lineup will be announced in the upcoming months.

Winter 2022 Speaker Schedule  

Dr. Lynn Hoang – Anatomical Pathologist

January 28, 2022 12 – 1 PM

Talk Title: Vulvar cancer – More than meets the eye

Dr. Hoang is an Anatomical Pathologist and Clinical Assistant Professor at Vancouver General Hospital and the University of British Columbia, offering subspecialty expertise in gynecologic pathology. She completed her pathology training at the University of British Columbia and fellowship training in gynecologic pathology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. In her early career, she has helped to refine the molecular underpinnings of a novel form of uterine sarcoma and push the traditional histologic classification scheme of endometrial carcinoma towards a molecular-based model. Currently, her research is centered on improving diagnostic techniques and treatment strategies for HPV-independent cancers of the female lower genital tract (vulva and cervix), which represent understudied and under-recognized diseases with important clinical ramifications.

Dr. Sheona Mitchell Foster – Obstetrician Gynecologist

Dr. Sheona Mitchell-Foster is a practicing Obstetrician Gynecologist and settler researcher with the University of British Columbia’s Northern Medical Program. After medical school at the University of Calgary, she completed her specialty training and Clinical Investigator fellowship in Vancouver at the University of British Columbia as well as a Masters of Public Health at John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Mitchell-Foster has a keen interested in reproductive health of marginalized populations and has worked extensively both in East Africa and in northern BC on cervical cancer prevention using HPV self-collection for screening including a CIHR-funded pilot of low-barrier options of cervical cancer screening for Indigenous women in the north. Other areas of current research include perinatal substance use in northern BC with a focus on Indigenous and underserved populations in rural and remote geographies and she is the Academic Lead on the first culturally safe holistic housing program dedicated specifically to women struggling with substance-use during pregnancy in northern Canada. In addition to Dr. Mitchell-Foster’s academic work she is also the Colposcopy Lead for Northern Health and the Yukon as part of the Provincial Colposcopy Program.

Dr. Hannah Nette – Supportive Care Physician

Hannah completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at McGill University in 1999. She received her Doctorate of Medicine from Dalhousie University in 2004 and then pursued postgraduate training in Family Medicine in Halifax, NS and Saint John, NB. Hannah’s interest in holistic health care grew during her years practicing as a primary care physician in Vancouver. Working with the InspireHealth team, she is excited to explore healing through patient engagement and empowerment. Hannah’s young children help keep her own “child eyes” open to the passion, mystery and inspiration that connects us all.
