BC Cancer is seeking a motivated individual for the role of Clinical Research Fellow in Medical Oncology – Gynecologic Malignancies  in the Department of Medical Oncology from January 2025 (start date negotiable) in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, for a 1-2 years term.

BC Cancer is an Agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority, providing a comprehensive cancer control program for over 5 million people in British Columbia and Yukon, Canada. The BC Cancer Research Centre located next to the BC Cancer – Vancouver Cancer Centre is a world class facility with state-of-the art platforms including genomics, bioinformatics, imaging, drug development and tissue banking.

The Division of Medical Oncology at UBC provides excellence in research, teaching and clinical services related to the nature, cause and prevention of cancer in adults. The Department of Medicine is the largest Department in the Faculty of Medicine with over 1,200 faculty and staff.

The intent of the fellowship is to provide advanced clinical training and education in the diagnosis and management of gynecologic cancers paired with research opportunities in clinical trials, real world outcomes, quality improvement and translational sciences. The fellow will work within the multidisciplinary Provincial Gynecologic Tumour Group with a team of dedicated gynecologic cancer specialists in medical oncology, surgery, radiation oncology, pathology, counselling, hereditary cancer testing, nursing and research.

The successful candidate will also benefit from the rich research environment and mentorship by world class researchers and experienced clinical investigators of British Columbia’s Gynecologic Cancer Initiative, a province-wide interdisciplinary research program affiliated with synergistic partner institutions including UBC, BC Cancer, BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre, and the Vancouver General Hospital.The Fellow will be supported in opportunities for formal training in clinical trials design such as may be available through BC Cancer, the Canadian Cancer Trials Group and other organizations. During their training the Fellow will be expected to present the results of their research in various settings including local research rounds, abstracts as local, national and international conferences, and to produce at least one written manuscript of their work by the completion of their training. There will be opportunities to participate in existing teaching programs.

Eligibility

The Fellow will have completed specialist medical oncology residency program (or equivalent) before starting their fellowship and must be eligible for licensure in British Columbia. For non-native English speakers, a TOEFL is required.

Term/start date

One (1) or two (2) – year term available starting after January 2025 (negotiable)

Salary

$97,877.39; Salary of the fellow will be at the level of a PGY-6 resident as per the Resident Doctors of BC  guidelines. This fellowship is funded through a grant from Glaxo Smith Kline to the BC Cancer Foundation.
