Season Premiere: Living as a Previvor: a BRCA 2 Story
Our new co-host Sabrina sits down with her mom, Sharon Grover, a BRCA2 carrier and gynecologic cancer previvor. Sharon opens up about what it means to live with an inherited cancer risk, the preventative steps she’s taken, and how she balances motherhood, teaching, and her love of sports and the outdoors. This heartfelt conversation highlights both the challenges and resilience of living as a previvor, while underscoring the importance of family, awareness, and proactive health choices. This episode also features a special appearance from Catriona, the co-founder of BRCA in BC, who discusses resources for BRCA mutation genetic screening in BC.
New this season
Next Gen in 10
We’re excited to debut Next Gen in 10, a new segment spotlighting the next generation of gynecologic cancer researchers. Each 10-minute episode will feature a gynecologic cancer research trainee’s thesis work. Co-host and GCI/UBC Trainee, Sabrina Loyd-Ellis, will walk through the key questions, methods, and discoveries. This fast-paced format gives trainees a platform to showcase their discoveries in bite-sized, meaningful conversations.
Our very first Next Gen in 10 episode features Sabrina, “Exploring Preventative care for BRCA mutation carriers.” Sabrina is an MSc candidate at in the UBC WACH+ program. Her research focuses on preventive care for BRCA mutation carriers,a group at higher risk for breast and ovarian cancer. Under the mentorship of Dr. Gillian Hanley, Sabrina is exploring preventative interventions that can help reduce cancer risk and improve outcomes for hereditary high-risk groups. Tune in to hear about the next generation of research shaping the future of gynecologic cancer prevention.

This season, we’re also presenting Unmuted: Equity in Focus, a special series dedicated to amplifying stories, expert insights, and community perspectives on equitable access and care. This series will highlight the communities and conversations too often left out of the fold, sparking dialogue, sharing actionable solutions, and inspiring change toward more inclusive and equitable gynecologic cancer care.
